εἰ δὲ καὶ ἤρισεν Ὅμηρος Ἡσιόδωι τῶι Ἀσκραίωι καὶ ἡττήθη, ὅπερ ὄκνος τοῖς Ὁμηρίδαις καὶ λέγειν, ζητητέον ἐν τοῖς εἰς τοῦτο γράψασιν, ἐν οἷς ἔκκεινται καὶ τὰ ῥητὰ τῆς ἔριδος.
Then again, whether Homer also competed with Hesiod of Ascra and was defeated, something which it is a heresy for the Homerids even to mention, should be enquired about in <the works of> those who have written on the matter, in which are preserved also the precise details of the contest.
